Children with Type 1 Diabetes in California public schools

I got an e mail from the Valadez Family this evening, and think its important for everyone to read their message and take action.

Hello,

We are a fellow diabetes family in Chula Vista writing to families, friends and relatives of children with diabetes. We are all aware of the school nursing shortage and budget cuts. Some nurses are spending only 1 or 2 days a week per school because they have been assigned to 3 schools. With the growing cases of juvenile diabetes, it’s becoming harder to provide care for our children in school. We need to pass legislation that will provide trained Diabetes Care Providers. As we all know, the worst thing you can do to a child with high blood sugar is nothing. We know about the nerve and organ damage. Please log onto www.diabetesincaschools.com, click on the “action” section, and find your political contact. Call our representatives and let them know that we need to pass this legislation. Please forward this message or call your friends and family in California to help in this important issue.

Pre-existing condition Art Show in San Diego

The show is currently on display at the Whittier Institute for Diabetes, in San Diego California. The Whittier is located at 9894 Genesee Avenue. La Jolla, CA 92037. It is on the Scripps Hospital Campus. Normal viewing hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Whittier will host an opening reception on May 6th. We are also trying to raise funds to keep the show traveling. Shipping and insurance costs need to be covered in order for the show to continue to move across the country. If you are able to make a donation or know of anyone who can help support this show, please visit this link to give.

Hey Kids! Type One is currently seeking active, ambitious and outgoing people to help us spread the word about Type One Clothing. The qualified team members would be responsible for distributing stickers, buttons and other promotional materials in their local community. JDRF Walk UCI Irvine Califonia

Once again, Dereck and Zoey set up the art center for the kids. We also promoted the line and passed out a bunch of buttons and stickers and small art prints. Bjorn the panda was a big hit. Thanks to Bank of America as well as the UCI Campus and all the folks who came out to the walk!

World Diabetes Day

We had a great time November first at Dodger Stadium. We made art with all the kids at our booth. Dereck Cruz of RADAR and I did a soft intro of Type One Clothing. Jet Stream ROCKED the stage! Nick Jonas got the walk started after a well delivered thank you to everyone. Curt Smith and band did a set that brought me back to the good ole days. Suzanne Rico and Josh Rubenstein from KCBS kept everyone in the know. We will se everyone in Orange County at the OC JDRF walk at UCI on Sunday November ninth.
